Florence & The Machine- Spectrum (Calvin Harris Remix)

For all those preparing their summer playlists: jackpot. This remix combines the talents of two extraordinary musicians and manages to showcase both of their strengths. Florence cannot be anything, but brilliant when there is a microphone placed in front of her while Calvin never fails to concoct riveting disco-y, electronic remixes that maintain an infectiously catchy sound. The single officially comes out July 8th, but we had to give y’all a preview.

“…as every colour illuminates / We are shining.”

Britney Spears- Til The World Ends Feat. Nicki Minaj & Ke$ha (Remix)

Interestingly, when mixing three partially annoying divas voices, the end result is not as irritating as you’d imagine, in fact, it’s pretty catchy - sans Ke$ha who is simply irredeemable as a human singer.

World- hold on.

The Streets- Going Through Hell (Diplo Remix)

If you’re going through a rut in your work out mix, keep this track on repeat. Combing a proud horn section with motivational lyrics and some dubstep makes for a lethal track to push ya through that last mile. Incredible how Diplo has managed to take the a typically jocular Streets track and turn it into a Rocky-esq theme that demands a montage, really.

“Keep Going.”

Lana Del Rey-Blue Jeans Feat. Azealia Banks (Foster The People Remix)

Let this track act as a perfect summation of the last two years of culturally significant music. Del Rey, the bad girl “gangsta Nancy Sinatra” remixed by those indie kids with the pumped kicks who actually want to inflict violence on hipsters “you better run from gun” in addition to Miss Azealia, our favorite up and coming rapper, far filthier than anyone you’ve ever heard and don’t confuse her with Iggy Azaelia.

The best genes in music.

Rihanna- Birthday Cake Feat. Chris Brown (Remix)

This is an indulgent post- Birthday Cake has how many calories? Surriously, we were only excited by this track for the potentially inappropriate jokes it could encourage i.e who knew a Chris Brown remix of a Rihanna song would be a HIT. We’ve always considered Chris Brown’s work an abuse of pop music eyyy ohhh. Sorry if we beat y’all to the punch on our uncouth response to the song. Okay now we’re done.

So, let them eat Cake!

Haroula Rose- Lavender Moon (The Hood Internet Remix)

Our favorite up-and-comer, Miss Haroula Rose, not only sings mellifluously, but also composes impressive, thoughtful lyrics. Naturally, her talents have not gone unnoticed in the realm of electronica. The Hood Internet cleverly picked Rose’s ‘Lavender Moon’ for a flowery disco inspired, electro lullaby. Bold move really- a folk remix and it’s hauntingly beautiful.

Time to wake up and smell the Roses!

Kelly Clarkson- Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You) (Project 46 Remix)

We may have to relinquish responsibility for this blog. This is the oddest feeling, giving in to what a record company manufactured hoped for a listener to experience… “Wow, this is really what I’m going through right now! Kelly says it so well! I feel empowered! And what a phenomenal singer! I think I’ll legally purchase her entire discography and attend her concert making sure to snag a limited tee!” Our mind was recently lost, if found, please contact us. How can we buy this song? This thoroughly Nietzchian track cannot be true, just ask Christopher Hitchens in one of his final articles for Vanity Fair: http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/2012/01/hitchens-201201 .Check us in.

Jay-Z- Beware the Boys (Punjabi MC Remix)

We can’t stress enough how spectacular the combination of hip-hop and Bhangra sounds. Sorry if Bhangra is the incorrect term this music is brand spankin’ new! Moreever, this track works perfectly with this hilarious trailer depicting that classic “dictator comes to New York” epic. Though Cohen’s character intends to mock the dictatorship of former Libyan dictator, Gaddafi, and this track employs the rework of Jay-Z by a British Indian musician Punjabi MC (Rajinder Singh Rai), we’ll over look the slight geographic differences. If fusion works with food, it can work with music-

These are a few of our favourite things!

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes- Home (Whole-Z Remix)

They say home is where the heart and soul is, this track definitely proves the soul bit of it. There was no imperfection in this desperate love song to begin with, so a remix can really only take away from the original, luckily this rework only plays up the initials qualities that made this song so striking. Fortunately, we can now rock out to this outlaw ballad in a club.

Home sweet home.
