We can never get enough Remixxes from Jamie, but this is a special one in particular. Not only does the sound seem like something Thom Yorke would approve above, or even compose himself, but it’s just one remix of several tracks from The King Of Limbs remix album, TKOL RMX 1234567, which dropped today.  As if everyones favorite band Radiohead needed one more endeavor to set them over the edge of coolness, one mere attribute to place them above the most progressive of groups on the modern music scene, another shred of evidence to prove that they’re the most cutting edge in not only the contemporary release of downloaded music for a negotiable price, but also its shifting notions of ownership.

Jamie xx- Far Nearer

The title of this track truly explains the sound: contradictory. Just as the words ‘far’ and ‘near’ remain suspended in a grammatical atmosphere of opposition, so do the sounds that create this song. The tension inherent in the off beat, the glockenspiel pulling away from drums, the ghostly vocals contrasting with the deeper tones of the sample, all join forces to produce a perfect musical paradox. Oh, Jamie xx, pulling us further and closer to newness.

Gil Scott Heron and Jamie xx- NY Is Killing Me

Jamie from The XX does a brilliant reinterpretation of this track. This eerie and fresh song is our new major obsession because it evokes that same sensation you felt when you listened to DJ Shadow for the first time- and everything made sense.  Jamie xx remixed Heron’s entire album all the while working on his own solo work!
