Xylos- Summerlong

Okay, since Summer is just around the corner, this track is the ideal reminder. It’s not as typical of a “summer” track as we’d usually recommend (see T.rex’s Electric Warrior and spark up a joint for a perfect classic warm weather album), but it’s a decent preview. Let this oh-so indie song as a preview of the blissful music to come!

Surf’s (nearly) up.

MS MR- Hurricane

This track feels so narrative we’re shocked we discovered this off of Pitchfork and not from the end of an episode of The OC or something of the like. Moreover, this duo has taken a cue from Lana del Rey and released this an eye-popping video of eclectic montage. Enjoy our new favorite group to hail from Brooklyn!

“What’s wrong with me/ why not understand and see/ I never saw what you saw in me.”

The Echo Friendly- Same Mistakes

As much as it’s hyped, Girls has some pretty poignant, relevant, and cringe worthy relatable moments. Concluding an episode of a show that’s based around the lives of confused, twenty-something, identity seeking women with a track like this, I mean, whoa. Lo-fi at its most effective, man. For those who long for the angst ridden yet downtrodden-ly poppy embrace of The Jesus Mary Chain, you’ll enjoy this track. Don’t forget kidz-

“All adventurous women do.”

Grouplove- Tongue Tied

Can’t help but root for this Group. From the interviews we’ve read, they seem like genuine artists who only want to express themselves and connect to others through music. Their music conveys an idealized adolescence, an experience that these free spirited kidz probably happily endured. If an alien were to understand teenagedom through this music, if would seem lovely, free from acne, and unable to convey awkwardness.

Love this group. Period.

Azealia Banks- Need Sum Luv

Never ignore an Azealia Banks release! Especially when this girl has just signed to Universal! Mazel, baby! This track lacks her usual lyrical vigor, but she’s still our fav gurl rapper who always demonstrates her vocal prowess over consistently unique beats. She is soooo now.

Give her some LUV.

Gabriel Bruce- Sleep Paralysis

Like creepier Nick Cave (it’s possible). If you get this song, then it perfectly captures a bizarre mood. Bruce’s voice may be slightly terrifying, but it’s distinctively eerie. With lyrics like “I’ve got this feeling that we’re dead,” expect to spot this track on next season’s True Blood!

Sweet dreams.

Sunday Girl- Where Is My Mind (The Pixies Cover)

Where is my mindful memory in the realization that I’ve blogged a cover of this epic? At least this chic is very Birdy-esq.

Blog, interrupted.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes- Home (Whole-Z Remix)

They say home is where the heart and soul is, this track definitely proves the soul bit of it. There was no imperfection in this desperate love song to begin with, so a remix can really only take away from the original, luckily this rework only plays up the initials qualities that made this song so striking. Fortunately, we can now rock out to this outlaw ballad in a club.

Home sweet home.

School Of Seven Bells- Night

After a bit of a recess, School of Seven Bells has returned with their third album, Ghostory released February 28th. As the title suggests, this single definitely has an ethereal, other world quality, but over a bit of an 80s percussion, which takes the track back to 2011. Maybe they’ve gone a bit more in a Naked and Famous Direction, but it’s still pretty.

School is back in session.

The Big Pink- Crystal Vision

Wow, this one alternates between trippy, psychedelic and Brit pop. That’s a lot of items on the menu that we enjoy ala BRMC with Velvet Underground.

Not shiny and new, but fun, nonetheless.
