College- A Real Hero Feat. Electric Youth

Isn’t the Drive soundtrack the gift that keeps on giving? It’s like the new Garden State soundtrack (in terms of relevance and popularity), but more edgy and less sentimental. If anything the contrast between the two film soundtracks starkly demonstrates the difference between the music from the eras of the films were released: folky rock versus apathetic electronic. And speaking of Heros…this Gatsby trailer… #weheartbazluhrmann

“Your pursuits are called outstanding/ You’re emotionally complex /Against the grain of dystopic claims.”

Mint- I Don’t Kvetch

After being initially drawn to this track based on its Yiddish title, we were incredibly surprised that the sound was less whiny and more…well edgy. Yiddish may suggest loads about Jewish culture- humor, perspective, angst, etc- but coolness is not one that tops the list. So, enjoy this impressively chill track instead of listening to us kvell over it any longer!

Milo & Otis- Friendly City (We Are Your Friends)

Who can forget the ineffable Simian Mobile Disco anthem? Certainly not these pals, who reinterpret the classic as if Skrillex burped it up, in the best possible way like after a delicious appetizer of disco inspired electronic and a main course of house marinated in dubstep.

“You’ll never be alone again.”

The Knife- We Share Our Mother’s Health

Break out the pancakes, order the flowers, and write your cards it’s Mother’s Day! Maybe even pass on this ad, which is totally consumerist we know, but like well meaning too, right?

Thanks Moms!

Grimes- Oblivion

We’ve kept our eye on Miss Claire Boucher for a while and she hasn’t disappointed. Expecting big tings from this dainty Canadian gal as evidenced from the docile edginess heard in “Oblivion.” Moreover, her strange video for this track keeps us up with what’s wild and cool in the indie-world. Yes, Grimes excels at exemplifying what electronic/indie pop can sound like at its very best.

“See you on a dark night.”

Actually- Mine

This artist falls under the genre “porn-pop,” so we pretty much could end this post there. No, Miss Ashley Huizenga doesn’t compose for the adult cinema she’s an actual performer, to what extent we’re unsure, but this modern Renaissance gal even dabbles in cinematography and music. What more could define the culture milieu of Los Angeles? Moreover, rumor has it Miss Huizenga Actually comes from a wealthy family leaving her with the slutty stiletto shoes of Lana Del Rey to fill. At least this track has an amazingly dark, sexy quality that actually leaves us wanting whore- er more.

Think a star is Porn?

Rebecca and Fiona- Dance

These chicks are some pretty cool DJs. Seriously, they needn’t be this pretty and talented and Swedish, from where all things cool and pop and blonde? now originate. Slow build on this track, but surriously stick with it. Like a chicer, repackaged La Roux we’re hoping this duo will take the electro pop scene by storm.

Dare you not to Dance to this one, or at least sway dramatically.

Flight Facilities- Foreign Language Feat. Jess

The idyllic duet between disco and electronic is simply blissful, innit? This track makes us want to see colors, and also to quote Rilke, “…be patient towards all that is unresolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves like locked rooms, like books written in a foreign tongue.” Speaking of Foreign Language who else will be reading the Four Questions in Hebrew this weekend? HELP. Let’s all celebrate our escape from slavery and incidental hunt for eggs in the yard, right?

Hot Chip- Flutes

New fresh and tasty Hot Chip! This minute long opening dwells somewhere between the realms of “tribal” electro, house, and the 80s. Only when the vocals commence does this one begin to sound like a recognizable Hot Chip experiment. Way to progress, boys. In Our Heads is due to drop June 12th, but what a lovely preview in the mean time. Furthermore, Hot Chip has released a slightly nauseating strange video to accompany the track, which displays the dizzying process of studio recording (wethinks)

Caveat: individuals prone to motion sickness should avoid this vid…

Flying Lotus- And The World Laughs With You Feat. Thom Yorke

In anticipation of FlyLo’s upcoming release (June, but who’s counting) how about an epic reminder of Steven Ellison’s prowess as a producer. Featuring Thom York is the mere tip of the iceberg of this glory, moreover, he’s employed to all his strengths, a bit on the detached ambient side, but still peppy, futuristic, and electro cool. Totally the type of music you could be productive too. In no time at all we’d sampled all three of his albums on Spotify so there you go!

Laugh on, kidz.
