Beach House- Equal Mind

After the singles “Myths” and “Lazuli” we’ve been really looking forward to what Beach House has in store for us: a tidal wave of awesome, we can only hope! Going more the route of Air and leaving behind their more grim indie rock, the Maryland based duo has really come in its own.

Let this track blow ya mind.

Grimes- Oblivion

We’ve kept our eye on Miss Claire Boucher for a while and she hasn’t disappointed. Expecting big tings from this dainty Canadian gal as evidenced from the docile edginess heard in “Oblivion.” Moreover, her strange video for this track keeps us up with what’s wild and cool in the indie-world. Yes, Grimes excels at exemplifying what electronic/indie pop can sound like at its very best.

“See you on a dark night.”

Beach House- Myth

A new Beach House track that doesn’t make us want to write sad, sad poetry in a cavernous, dark room…we thought this was only the stuff of MYTH- and it sort of is. Love that we can chill to this one without feeling the desire to harm ourselves. The track still maintains that addicting descending guitar we so loved in “Zebra,” while the percussion here drives a somewhat upbeat melody. This could be the makings of a legendary album to come ensuring that Beach House fully Blooms.

“What comes after this? Momentary bliss- the consequence of what you do to me.”

School Of Seven Bells- Night

After a bit of a recess, School of Seven Bells has returned with their third album, Ghostory released February 28th. As the title suggests, this single definitely has an ethereal, other world quality, but over a bit of an 80s percussion, which takes the track back to 2011. Maybe they’ve gone a bit more in a Naked and Famous Direction, but it’s still pretty.

School is back in session.

School Of Seven Bells- Windstorm

This band was created by former Secret Machines guitarist/back-up vocalist, Benjamin Curtis, and identical twins, Claudia and Alejandra Deheza.  Some beautiful lyrics here that sweep you up into calming whirling sounds.  The band name alludes to the legendary South American Pickpocket school!

So, let them steal your breath and prepare to be blown away.

The Loose Salute- Happy I Don’t Count

This ethereal track sounds like a lazy rainy day- an appropriate sentiment from these Brits.

Count on this one for a chillin’ time.

Local Natives- Eyes Wide (Fool’s Gold Remix)

Great combination of Dream Pop with grimmy Hip Hop.  A perfectly contained futuristic re-interpretation of several novel sounds.  Reaching back and looking forward simultaneously is a pretty impressive feat- does it matter if a contradictory sound only serves to please?

Got my eye on you.

Twin Sister- Ribbon Bow

Somewhere  over the Ribbon Bow between The Wizard of Oz, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, dream pop, and 1940s jazz lies Twin Sister.  This must be some sort of missing musical link.  Easily some of the best music to come out of Long Island this decade year -except for Hoodie Allen, of course.

We’re feeling a close tie with this one.

Houses- Soak It Up

At first listen we deemed this yet another attempt at some delicate electronified dream pop.  Took us one more listen to Soak It Up.  Now it’s en route to becoming a mellow anthem of both drifting confusion and welcoming repose.  Definitely looking forward to some domestic bliss come October 19th when this Chicago based band releases their first album All Night.

Welcome home.

School Of Seven Bells- I L U

If you ever wanted to hear a dichotomy- look no further than this New York based trio.  This track is a simultaneous upper and downer, an upbeat yet chilled embrace.  Couldn’t be better timing either considering the heat wave all New Yorkers are currently enduring!

Wouldn’t it be sick if your “too cool for school” attitude actually effected your body temperature?
