For all those preparing their summer playlists: jackpot. This remix combines the talents of two extraordinary musicians and manages to showcase both of their strengths. Florence cannot be anything, but brilliant when there is a microphone placed in front of her while Calvin never fails to concoct riveting disco-y, electronic remixes that maintain an infectiously catchy sound. The single officially comes out July 8th, but we had to give y’all a preview.

This track showcases exactly what Azealia does best: spittin’ (almost indecipherable, but definitely scandalous) rhymes over sick, house, dance infused beats. Furthermore, Azealia throws in some of her own melodious vocals. The gurl can rap and sing.

Very very Vogue.

Ace Frehley- New York Groove

This Kiss lead guitarist and vocalist has nailed the sound of New York during its emergence into hellish humidity and the blissful, painful return of flip-flops on the pavement with his solo hit. So without further adieu- start spreading the news…

This legendary choon pretty much defines Lilwhy 2012. How many sullen teens and cool kidz have felt the same way? Also, how amusing is it that technology can be impressive, than irrelevant and cheesy, but then come bac into fashion with a nostalgic vintage feel as evidenced with this video?

This has nothing to do with The Band classic, but it has everything to do with the commencement of the summer weather. What better way to celebrate this feat than with a fabulously moan-y English alternative band?

Get ready for a wet, hot, American summer with some English indie.

Baauer- Harlem Shake

Though this track has nothing to do with Jack Bauer (that we know of) it’s nearly as enthralling as one of his fantastical, explosive, monomaniacal pursuits. The Harlem Shake provides the ideal blend of a frenetic dance sound with an epic bass that will certainly induce a booty shake. Yes, the combination of House and Hip-Hop can often balance the respective energetic high of intensity with a rapid dropping descent into bass just like a red bull and vodka.

So, do the Harlem Shake.

Xylos- Summerlong

Okay, since Summer is just around the corner, this track is the ideal reminder. It’s not as typical of a “summer” track as we’d usually recommend (see T.rex’s Electric Warrior and spark up a joint for a perfect classic warm weather album), but it’s a decent preview. Let this oh-so indie song as a preview of the blissful music to come!

For the master’s birthday. This is partially laudatory and partially critical of Bobby, but Bowie still balances brilliant homage and admiration with criticism through his legendary style. Happy 71st Robert Zimmerman!

It’s like the new Garden State soundtrack (in terms of relevance and popularity), but more edgy and less sentimental. If anything the contrast between the two film soundtracks starkly demonstrates the difference between the music from the eras of the films were released: folky rock versus apathetic electronic.
It’s been a rough week for the disco era. It hasn’t seen this much damage since the closure of Studio 54, no? Despite the fact that this track possesses a slightly inappropriate title for an homage, any artist truly understands that the greatest attempt at immortality comes from their opus: their creative offspring. Thus, it is a testament to the Bee Gees and to Mr. Robin Gibb that this track remains relevant and influential.

After being initially drawn to this track based on its Yiddish title, we were incredibly surprised that the sound was less whiny and more…well edgy. Yiddish may suggest loads about Jewish culture- humor, perspective, angst, etc- but coolness is not one that tops the list. So, enjoy this impressively chill track instead of listening to us kvell over it any longer!

What an iconic sound. Obviously pioneering the ethereal vocals of the disco era is one thing, but employing a maverick like Giorgio Moroder is quite another. This track contains a plethora of elements to mark it ” ahead of its time.” The Guardian even hails it as shocking as the punk rock it chronologically paralleled in 1977 and goes on to suggest that this song alone would have been enough to cement Miss Summer’s contribution to the world of Pop, but she still went on to churn out hit after hit while defining the sound and culture of disco.

If for some reason your world is devoid of electro-pop, you can’t deny the eccentric, upbeat quality to these Trinidad And Tobagoians. Perhaps the most important elements of good electro-pop are a keen amount of disco fusion and some pseudo-synesthesia. Seriously, the best tracks sound so boppy and upbeat they can color a room or your listening experience.

Who can forget the ineffable Simian Mobile Disco anthem? Certainly not these pals, who reinterpret the classic as if Skrillex burped it up, in the best possible way like after a delicious appetizer of disco inspired electronic and a main course of house marinated in dubstep.

What a peculiarly exciting track. Somewhere in between seeming up and down beat lies this Canadian trio and their bizarre <strike>taste</strike> creation. How strange that this music suggests the thrill of possibility while the vocals exhale a sort of exhausted defeat. Stranger still is the apathetically hedonistic and vile video for the track, which is definitely not safe for work due to its ability to make honey (or something similar to honey) look unappetizing and other unpleasant imagery.

This video depicts some sticky situations: not for the faint.

The Knife- We Share Our Mother’s Health
