Macklemore & Ryan Lewis- Same Love Feat. Mary Lambert
This is exactly the kind of track that makes us cry (and you wouldn’t like to be in the same room as us for the video..). It’s lack of subtlety is entirely effective allowing the lyrics to act as a straightforward poem. Hearing a hip-hop narrative is refreshing and it’s difficult not to find the sentiment touching. Interestingly like the song says, “a certificate on paper isn’t gonna solve it all, but it’s a damn good place to start,” seems strikingly similar to the mission of the track itself. I doubt this track will change any minds, but it will hopefully solidify ideals, and it’s a damn good place to start a conversation.
“If I was gay I would think hip-hop hates me/ Have you read the youtube comments lately?”
