Oh how this anthem brings us back to the despair that was mononucleosis. Over share alert! Still, though it’s been years and a decent album later since Neon Bible was released, we still have yet to find anything that comes close to topping the explosively poignant organ at the song’s climax. Perhaps, it is unmatchable. From Butler’s initial trembling vocals in the first seconds, the desperation and tension only builds into an eruption of almighty yet terrifying profundity. This masterpiece is the true indication that this album was recorded in a church. Hauntingly powerful.
